This meal feels truly authentic. The flavors are strong, but simple, and the starch from the rice cakes stand up to the heat from the curry and pungency of the fish sauce. It’s a meal that, when I took my first bite, I was wasn’t so sure how I felt about it, but I cleaned my plate, went back for seconds, and couldn’t wait to eat it again and again the next day (I think it’s actually better the second day). The recipe is from Bon Appetit, but I found that it needs a bit more honey than the recipe calls for. The heat and flavors are very strong so your children will probably not love this meal combined, but my kids love ground pork on it’s own and they devour these rice cakes. I cook their meat and reserve it before adding the spice and cook their rice cakes separately from my own.
