Organic Oren
a delicious, well-priced food delivery option
I love cooking and I’m very critical of the food I eat. If it’s a hot meal, I want it piping. If it’s fried, it has to be crispy. I can’t stand bland food. So when Organic Oren reached out and said they wanted to give me some food, I was nervous. I can’t lie and was worried about how to be honest if I wasn’t a huge fan of the meals. And I was going to dissect everything. Was the meat cooked well? Were the sauces yummy? Did everything have enough flavor?
I cannot tell you the relief I felt when I bit into the first bite of steak. It was so tender and flavorful and my husband and I both instantly said “wow.” He thinks it’s the best takeout he’s had in Newport and I don’t disagree. See below on my thoughts on the overall meal plan and the individual meals.

meal plan highlights (in no particular order):
convenience - they deliver locally or have regular Monday pickups at the cutest event space, The Abalone Room.
allergy friendly - the food is free of gluten, dairy, soy and other common allergens making it the perfect thing to serve when hosting.
well-priced - I tend to assign a price in my mind before I buy something so there’s no disparity between my value of something and what it costs. At roughly $30 per entrée, this was exactly the value I assigned to the meals. They feed 2 adults, are delicious, have quality ingredients, and you can’t beat the convenience factor.
taste - we reheated the steak in the chipotle bowl per the instructions. Typically, I find that reheating meat makes it tough, but this meat was so tender and flavorful and we couldn’t get enough of it. All of the meals were well seasoned and crave-worthy. I will be so happy to have them in my fridge for lunches or when I can’t find the time to cook.
cute packaging - with the local Duffy culture, these would be the perfect meals to bring. They are beautiful, impressive, can be eaten at room temperature, and the packaging is attractive, easy for serving, and disposable.
Chipotle Steak Bowl - First off, the salsas that come with this meal are insane; I would like to recreate them and eat them with all of the Mexican food I cook. You know a Mexican restaurant is great if the salsas are good, and this meal is no exception. The meat was so incredibly tender that my husband and I were questioning whether or not it was filet. Furthermore, it was seasoned perfectly; the flavors were not so overwhelming that children would have an aversion to them and great enough that the meat needed no extra sauces or sides (but I happily doused it in the salsa). The rice and veggies were also cooked perfectly and it would look beautiful on a platter if serving to a large group.
Miso Salmon - This tasted like a deconstructed sushi roll to me in the best way. I was able to grab the ratio of salmon, rice, sauce, and veggies I wanted for the perfect bite. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the seeded crust gave it great texture especially if you’re not eating it the first day you pick it up. My kids couldn’t get enough of the pickles and the Matcha Sesame sauce that came with it was innovative and delicious. It looked beautiful on the plate with the beet infused rice, and if was served at a local restaurant, I would order it every time.
Chinese Chicken Salad - There are many Chinese chicken salads locally, but this one is different in an amazing way. I am a sauce girl and tend to slightly overdress my salads. When I initially dressed the salad, I thought they hadn’t given me enough, but after eating it I realized it was perfect. The salad has enough dressing to get all the flavor without the saturation, and it lets the ingredients shine. The veggies and chicken are shredded making each bite a playful experience in texture. You feel GREAT about eating this salad and it is durable since it would remain just as delicious a while after dressing. It’s also beautiful making it perfect for hosting.
I also tried the raspberry thumbprint cookies (sweet coconut cookies with the perfect acidic balance from the raspberry), chips and guacamole (every chip was delicious and the poblano crema elevated the guacamole), zucchini bread (couldn’t believe it was gluten free), and chicken sausage (herbaceous and delicious - my kids even liked it) and was blown away. Give it a try! You won’t be disappointed.
