I wrote a lot about Mother’s Day because I have a pretty good idea (I think) of what an ideal day would be for a mom, but when it comes to dads, I think it’s a little more simple. Our dad wants to be showered with love and gifts in the morning, and then he doesn’t want to be bothered the rest of the day. The freedom to do whatever he wants without a plan and on a whim is our dad’s dream day, so we try to give it to him. It’s a “yes” day of sorts, but more than that, it’s a day when we don’t pester him about what he wants to do, what he wants to eat, when he wants to do it, with whom, nor do we try to read into anything he says. He tells us what he wants to do and when, or better yet, he simply does it.
I’ve shared my gift ideas with you, and next year when I have my act together I would love to put together a real gift guide (like this - half the price at costco, this, this and this), but for now, give dad a unique homemade gift (like art, custom vans, hand embroidered tee, or custom book), thoughtful card/questionnaire (below and at the link for a printable individual or family file), cool gadget, make him a yummy breakfast (I highly recommend an english muffin breakfast sandwich with this aioli), and let him do whatever the heck he wants the rest of the day. He’ll thank you for it.
